4 4x5" black and white photos glued to two sides of photo album cardboard. Two photos on one side include interior photo of Hanthorn cannery and photo of two canoes with Native Americans in native dress; note says, "boat Electro became K later, passenger and freight, 1910's, Indians thought to be real." Two photos on other side include what is thought to be Benson log raft being towed and surrounded by tugs with note "Benson? log raft early '20's," and photo of lighthouse 1 8x10" black and white photo of Benson raft in water. Note on the back says it was taken by Wilbur J Smith at the mouth of the Columbia River, with destination San Diego. "The purpose of this photo is to show one method of transporting logs on Pacific Ocean. Raft contains approx. seven million feet log scale." the date is 1947 and the raft is identified as a log raft or cigar raft. 2 3x5" black and white photos of Benson raft being built and towed from the dock. Note on back of photo showing the raft being towed says "cradle for making Benson rafts". Handwritten sheet says the photo was taken before 1938 and includes other background information. |
